Hello people,
How was your weekend? Last week, I sent a newsletter about the myths surrounding freelancing, where I debunked 5 popular myths holding people back. If you missed it, check here.
Today is about LinkedIn and its numerous opportunities for freelancers. However, this issue will be completed next week due to its volume and my limited time.
So, I am sure we all know what LinkedIn is, even though only some of us have an account with them.
For those who don't know what LinkedIn means. Here you go.
LinkedIn is the Facebook of professionals. Like we have Facebook, the social network where we can interact, have fun, and share updates. LinkedIn is the same, just that it's more professional, and you rarely see people share about their birthday parties and other things we share on Facebook. Not like birthday parties are that bad, but such posts will probably not gain traction on LinkedIn because it's not passing a relevant message.
For freelancers, many of us need to learn the incredible perks of having an ACTIVE LinkedIn account. There are stories about how LinkedIn has changed peoples' lives with fantastic job offers, life-changing connections, and an opportunity to build something great with other like minds.
In fact, it's easier to connect with Mark Zuckerberg on LinkedIn than on Facebook, which he owns.
After signing up on LinkedIn, what should I do next?
LinkedIn is not technical or complicated. As I explained earlier, you only need to be more professional in all you post there.
After signing up, you need to determine your goal to know the kind of content you put out.
Why are you on LinkedIn?
The BIG question is, why are you on LinkedIn? These follow-up questions will help you get clarity.
What do you want people to think of you when they see your profile?
For example, someone may say they want to position themselves as an authority in what they do. Let's assume they are a marketer for small business owners; they may want to be seen as the go-to person for small business owners on LinkedIn.
What do you want to achieve on LinkedIn?
We have different goals for signing up on LinkedIn. I want to be seen as one of the authorities in freelancing especially writing in marketing, Metaverse and Blockchain. Also, I want to get hired for the best gigs around. For some, they want to be LinkedIn influencers for brands. For others, they may want to be seen as a good company people can work in.
You see, we all have different reasons for joining LinkedIn.
Who do you want to connect with on LinkedIn?
I am sure if you want to connect with a Chief Marketing Officer in the Crypto niche on LinkedIn, you won’t be posting content relating to Football or Big brother Nigeria. Your content is what attracts people to you. So make efforts to create value-driven content that will attract the kind of people you want to connect with.
Utilizing the opportunities on LinkedIn*
So, I will stop here this week and continue the LinkedIn series next week.
Before then, kindly share this newsletter with your friends. We are still a long way to get to our October target of 200 subscribers.
TEA:
Remember I told you earlier this month I started a new job as a writing intern at www.DxTalks.com? Yeah, I got my first stipend as an intern. Not like it is something spectacular, but I am happy they loved my job so far at the end-of-the-month meeting. It is also my first time getting paid in USDT. The rate is cool. Winks*
PS: Remember the ultimate beginners’ guide newsletter? Someone practiced and got a response on his Upwork account. I can’t wait to share his good news with y’all.
